Warm Color Theory

Hey My Crocheters!

Today’s post is going to be about Warm color theory. The warm colors are often seen as energetic and, well warm. The warm colors include red, yellow, orange, red-orange, red-violet, and yellow-orange. Let’s look at each color and talk about how they can make us feel.

Red

Red is known to be a very energetic color. It is often associated with increasing our pulse rates and grabbing our attention. Pink is like red, but softened since it is tinted with quite a bit of white. Therefore, pink has muted effects of red.

Yellow

Yellow is known to be warm and is associated with the sun. It is felt to be a happy and friendly color. Yellow is also a bright color that pops. Our eyes pick yellow up very quickly.

Orange

Orange is known to be a stimulating color since it is a combination of both red and yellow. It is also considered the hottest color. It is associated with abundance. It is meant to catch attention like how we use it for caution cones.

The tertiary colors also hold many of the same effects as the warm primary and secondary colors. This is true since each is either made with combining yellow or red.

I find color theory and the psychology of color fascinating. Marketers use it everyday to convey certain feelings about a product. Makeup is a great example of this. Red makeup is associated with seductive and sultry feelings. Where as pink conveys a more romantic feeling. Colors are usually combined to truely convey a particular feeling. Like a mixture of orange and red would convey the warmth and comfort of a fire. As well as the stimulating effects from both hot colors.

I hope this give more insight into warm colors and how to use them.

Happy Hooking!
